Define news channels

“The following applies to the number of news channels: as few as possible, as many as necessary”

With our news app, you can quickly and easily communicate information to larger groups of people — often the target group is the entire company. Here are a few topics on which our customers regularly write news articles:

The first idea of our customers is often to create a separate news channel for each topic. In general, creating news channels has the following advantages:

The disadvantage of many news channels is that it becomes confusing after a certain number of topics. There is rarely news about many topics anyway, so that having your own news channel is not worthwhile. In total, many companies (depending on size and industry) often only publish 1-2 posts per day, so that the benefits of personalization etc. are limited. It has therefore proven effective in practice to start with fewer news channels in case of doubt, according to the motto: as few as possible, as much as necessary. If required, additional news channels can be created at any time.

Before defining the news channels, a list of topics including responsible persons and estimated publication frequency should first be created (see implementation plan) in order to obtain as realistic a picture of the expected content as possible. On the basis of this list, the news channels can then be defined. The following procedure has been tried and tested:

1. All company-wide topics on which there is less than one post per week are assigned to a general news channel. This usually applies to most topics such as management, occupational safety, data protection, quality management, finances, etc.

2. News channels are then created for the following company-wide topics:

a) High frequency: Topics for which there is more than one post per week. They are in

As a rule, very few topics such as IT, personnel or sales/customers3. b) Prominence/ Motivation: Topics that (should) occupy a special position due to their importance and/or departments that value their own channel. These include topics such as personnel, works or staff councils (unless they already have their own channel due to their frequency). Finally, target group-specific news channels are created for topics that only affect some of the employees (e.g. internal news channels). However, experience shows that such news channels should only be created for large numbers of people (usually >50), as otherwise a chat group is usually sufficient or works better.

There are also other use cases for news channels, such as bulletin boards, idea rooms or job advertisements, which are described below.
