People stories & profile fields

“There is no more popular topic on the intranet than employees themselves”

By far the most popular news articles are those about people (“People Stories”), such as the introduction of new employees.

Compared to this, all other content is generally read and liked significantly less. On the one hand, this is due to the fact that most company news is rather factual and not very emotional. On the other hand, 87% of employees have little or no emotional connection to their company (source: Gallup Institute), meaning that interest is limited.

But even such employees are usually curious about who the new trainees are, for example. That's why many of our customers have even created their own news channel for all topics that involve people:

Occasionally, this channel is called “Personal”, but a more emotional name such as “We” or similar is often chosen. For larger companies with many new employees, it is advisable to add a suggestion subscription to this channel so that it can be deselected if desired or at least the push notifications can be switched off. The “hard facts” about personnel are then published in the general news channel, which is usually mandatory.

In any case, we absolutely recommend that you present all new employees in one news article per person. Such a personal welcome within the entire company is a sign of appreciation, motivation and commitment to the company.

If a large number of new employees start at the beginning of the month in large companies, you can spread the news articles over the month. This is how you regularly get attractive, emotional content that hardly requires any work, because: Most of our customers use a simple question-answer format that is similar to a poetry album and is filled out quickly, such as “10 questions to...”:

Some customers also have these questions in their own voluntary “About me” section in the profiles. This makes the work environment more personal and less anonymous, which can be particularly helpful in larger organizations or working from home when the majority of people don't know or see each other.

Since application photos are often not authentic and the format is usually not suitable for news articles, some companies either take a short photo with their smartphone on the first day of work or ask employees for a picture in advance.

In any case, it is essential to establish a process that ensures that all new (and gladly already employed) employees and employee anniversaries are celebrated in Just Social, because: Intranets and employee apps depend on content, and as I said at the beginning, there is no more popular topic than the employees themselves.
